This manor house is generally said to date from the 15th century (when it was remodeled), but its origins go back much further. Located on the La Claise River, at the entrance to La Brenne, it was the seat of a fiefdom under the jurisdiction of Méobec Abbey. In the 13th and 14th centuries, it belonged to the Parnac family, then passed into the hands of the lords of Chabenet and many others over the centuries.
All that remains of the manor house today is an elegant 15th-century main building, spanning three levels plus an attic, flanked by a square stair tower with a main entrance featuring an ogival arch; it has also retained a round tower that was once a dovecote.
This residence would benefit from renovation, while taking care to preserve the vestiges of the past that define its identity—including the well located in a wall of the living room, as this noble country residence was built to allow for self-sufficient living for several months at a time if necessary.
Currently, the first level features a large kitchen and a spacious living room, a bathroom with a shower, a laundry room, a toilet, a cellar, and a pantry in the basement. The stone staircase leads to the second level, where two landings provide access to four bedrooms—two of which have en-suite bathrooms—and a separate toilet; then to the third level, featuring two large rooms that are not currently habitable; and finally to the attic, which boasts a magnificent roof structure resembling an inverted ship’s hull. From the bedroom windows, you’ll enjoy a magnificent view of the river that runs alongside the property, surrounded by approximately 3.5 hectares of meadows.
The manor’s outbuildings have also stood the test of time, so for all kinds of activities—tourism or otherwise—you’ll have access to a small cottage in need of renovation, a barn with a canopy, and another large stone building consisting of former stables with an attic above, one end of which has been converted into a small hunting lodge. You’ll be in the countryside while still being just 15 km from a commercial area in Châteauroux and barely 15 minutes from the A20 highway.
If you have an agricultural project—whether crop farming or livestock raising—that requires more land and/or woodland, even just a few additional hectares, this is possible. Or if you need additional housing and/or farm buildings, the adjacent organic livestock farm is also available for sale. I can therefore provide you with all the necessary additional information and introduce you to this property, which I am marketing under another of our brands.
